Update in Kenya

During the riots uprising in “Maili Nne 4 miles” region of Eldoret City placed the orphans we care for in danger. Stephen Kigori, Catherine O’Donnell’s brother, had compassion on them personally placing his own life in danger going retrieving the children bringing them home to live with him and his family. Twenty people survived in his tiny apartment for two weeks during the riots. He dared only to go out to obtain food for his extended “family group”.

The Lord was merciful keeping them safe from harm as the violence spread throughout the community. Afterwards, Stephen was able to find them accommodations in a small apartment not too far from his apartment in February so he could personally watch over them for Teresa.

The background of the children is widow Grace Wangoi Kagwe found herself caring for her three daughters’ children after two died and the third abandoned her children. Her grandchildren brought the total of those she was trying to care for up to eleven including her son John Mugo Kagwe and herself when Teresa met her.

Shortly after their meeting Grace fell ill dying leaving her son John the eldest of all the children on their own.

Under Teresa and Stephen’s care the children are flourishing. John Mugo Kagwe 22 and his nephews Joseph Mugo 20 and Samuel Njoroge dropped out of school when their parents died because of the lack of funding for continuing their education. John found employment in Stephen’s pharmacy. Joseph works in the market.

Niece Grace Wangoi 17 in the seventh grade, Joseph Mugo 11 is in the second grade, Mary Wambui 8 is in the first grade and Sammy Njoroge 6 in preschool is siblings. Siblings Grace Wangoi Njeri 13 is in the fourth grade, Joseph Mugo Njeri 10 is in the second grade and John Kimani Njeri 7 is in preschool.
